Biography of Whitney Houston:
She was the youngest child of John Russell Houston Jr. and gospel singer Cissy Houston. Whitney Houston grew up surrounded by music, as her mother was a well-known gospel singer and her cousin was Dionne Warwick.
Houston began singing in the church choir at a young age and by her early teens, she was performing in nightclubs with her mother. She was soon discovered by Arista Records executive Clive Davis, who signed her to a recording contract in 1983. Houston’s debut album, “Whitney Houston,” was released in 1985 and became a massive success, producing hits such as “Saving All My Love for You” and “How Will I Know.”
Houston went on to release several more successful albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including “Whitney,” “I’m Your Baby Tonight,” and “The Bodyguard” soundtrack, which sold over 45 million copies worldwide. She also had a successful acting career, starring in films such as “The Bodyguard,” “Waiting to Exhale,” and “The Preacher’s Wife.”
Houston struggled with drug addiction throughout much of her career and personal life, and her behavior became increasingly erratic in the late 1990s and 2000s. She was involved in several high-profile incidents, including a highly publicized marriage to singer Bobby Brown, and was often absent from public appearances and performances.
Houston died on February 11, 2012, at the age of 48, in Beverly Hills, California. Her death was attributed to accidental drowning in her hotel bathtub, with heart disease and cocaine use listed as contributing factors. Whitney Houston’s impact on the music industry and popular culture continues to be felt today, and she remains one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 200 million records sold worldwide.
