Trey Songz grew up in a military family, moving frequently as a child. He discovered his love for music at a young age and began performing in talent shows in high school. After graduating, he moved to New Jersey to pursue his music career.

Songz signed with Atlantic Records in 2003 and released his debut album “I Gotta Make It” in 2005. The album peaked at number 20 on the US Billboard 200 and spawned the hit single “Gotta Make It”.
