Urban began his acting career in 1990 with a small role in the New Zealand TV series “Shark in the Park.” He then appeared in several other New Zealand TV shows and movies, including “Homeward Bound,” “Shortland Street,” and “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.”
In 2002, Urban gained international recognition for his role as Éomer in “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.” He reprised the role in the third installment of the trilogy, “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.”
Urban has also appeared in several Hollywood blockbusters, including “The Bourne Supremacy” (2004), “Doom” (2005), “Star Trek” (2009), and “Thor: Ragnarok” (2017). He also played the title character in the 2012 comic book movie “Dredd.”
