Joel Courtney is an American actor best known for his role as Joe Lamb in the 2011 science-fiction film “Super 8.” He was born on January 31, 1996, in Monterey, California, but grew up in Moscow, Idaho. His parents are Carla and Dale Courtney, and he has three older siblings.

Courtney’s interest in acting began when he was in sixth grade, and he appeared in school plays and local theater productions. In 2010, he attended an open casting call for the lead role in “Super 8” and was chosen out of thousands of applicants for the part of Joe Lamb.

Following his breakout role in “Super 8,” Courtney went on to appear in several other films and television shows. He played the role of Peter Moore in the 2015 film “The River Thief” and starred as Tom Sawyer in the 2017 film “Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn.” He also had recurring roles on the TV series “The Messengers” and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

In addition to acting, Courtney is also a musician and plays the guitar and piano. He released his first single, “Lost in Japan,” in 2019 and has since released several other songs.

Outside of his career, Courtney is an advocate for mental health awareness and has spoken openly about his own struggles with anxiety and depression. He is also involved in various charitable organizations, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
