Iggy Pop (born James Newell Osterberg Jr. on April 21, 1947) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and actor.
Career Journey of Iggy Pop:
Pop’s career began in the mid-1960s as a drummer in various high school bands. He formed the Stooges in 1967, and the band’s self-titled debut album was released in 1969. The Stooges’ music was known for its raw, aggressive sound and Pop’s stage antics, which included self-mutilation and other forms of self-destructive behavior.
The Stooges released two more albums, “Fun House” (1970) and “Raw Power” (1973), before disbanding due to lack of commercial success and personal conflicts. Pop then embarked on a solo career and released his first solo album, “The Idiot,” in 1977, which was produced by David Bowie. The album featured a new wave sound and marked a departure from the Stooges’ raw punk rock sound.
Pop continued to release solo albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s, experimenting with different genres such as hard rock, new wave, and electronica. His most commercially successful album was “Blah Blah Blah” (1986), which featured the hit single “Real Wild Child (Wild One).”
In addition to his music career, Pop has also appeared in numerous films and television shows, including “Dead Man” (1995), “Tank Girl” (1995), and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” (1998). He is also known for his collaborations with other artists, such as his work with David Bowie on “The Idiot” and “Lust for Life” (1977) albums.
Pop has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, once as a member of the Stooges in 2010 and again as a solo artist in 2021. He continues to perform and record music, and his influence on the punk rock and alternative music scenes can still be heard today.
