While there, he made several short films, including “THX 1138 4EB,” which became the basis for his first feature film, “THX 1138.”

In 1971, Lucas founded his own production company, Lucasfilm Ltd., and began work on his second feature film, “American Graffiti.” The film was a critical and commercial success, and helped launch the careers of several young actors, including Ron Howard and Harrison Ford.

The film was a massive success, and went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of all time. Lucas retired from filmmaking in 2012, and sold his company, Lucasfilm Ltd., to Disney for over $4 billion. However, his impact on the film industry, and popular culture as a whole, continues to be felt to this day.
