Boseman was born and raised in Anderson, South Carolina, and went on to study at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he graduated with a degree in fine arts. After graduating, he moved to New York City to pursue a career in acting, and began his career with small roles in television shows like “Law & Order” and “CSI: NY.”
His breakout role came in 2013 when he was cast as Jackie Robinson in the biographical sports film “42.” This led to further success, including his performance as James Brown in “Get on Up” and his role as T’Challa in “Captain America: Civil War,” which set the stage for his starring role in “Black Panther” in 2018. The film was a massive critical and commercial success, earning over $1.3 billion worldwide and becoming the first superhero film to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.
Boseman continued to work on other projects, including the films “Marshall” and “Da 5 Bloods,” as well as producing and starring in the play “Deep Azure” at the Congo Square Theatre Company in Chicago. He also continued to give back to his community, supporting various charities and initiatives, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
In 2020, it was revealed that Boseman had been privately battling colon cancer for four years. He passed away on August 28, 2020, at the age of 43, leaving behind a legacy of groundbreaking performances and a commitment to using his platform to make a difference in the world.
