Springsteen’s father, Douglas Springsteen, worked as a bus driver, while his mother, Adele Ann Zerilli, worked as a legal secretary. Springsteen’s family was of Italian and Irish descent, and he grew up in a Catholic household.
Springsteen began playing guitar at the age of thirteen, and he started playing in local bands while still in high school. After graduation, he played in several bands on the Jersey Shore circuit, and in the early 1970s, he formed the E Street Band, which would become his longtime backing band.
